Live Review - Manchester Academy
As the doors of the Academy opened for Live's first UK date of their
Secret Samadhi Tour on Sunday evening 13th April, little did the
awaiting fans expect to be in for the impassioned performance which they
were to receive.
The tension mounted as the hall rapidly became packed solid of an
immensely diverse audience hungry to hear melodic tunes like,
Turn My Head, alongside the powerful riffs of Heropsychodreamer.
When the Pensylvanian rockers took to the stage, a rapturous applause was
heard whilst the dynamic chords of Rattlesnake rung out across the crowd.
Ed kowalczyk's stunning vocal performance was delivered with full force in
hits such as, Selling the Drama, from their previous album
Throwing Copper.
Although the set was fundamentally based on the new album, their rendition of
Pain Lies on the Riverside and Operation Spirit from their debut,
Mental Jewelry, was unforgettable.
The enthusiasm of the crowd never failed throughout the night and in Live's
more meloncholic moments the excitement of the audience was hightened with the
haunting Lightning Crashes and their recent single, Lakini's Juice.
Live chose the obvious, I Alone, for their first encore but it was
met with a thunderous ovasion and the band left the stage whilst the ringing
of Chad Taylor's guitar could still be heard.
When Live play live, there really is a passion that sweeps the audience and
leaves everyone with a sense that no band will ever compete with the quality of
both music and performance which Live are able to deliver from start to finish.
